doing stuff

so, I had this faux fur throw pillow that's been sitting on our couch and the thing is, JG hates faux fur (and any fabric that's minky or really soft, pretty much.) and well, I didn't really care for it on the couch anyway so I seam-ripped that sucker off. but the faux fur was still in great condition and I don't hate faux fur so I decided I'd sew it into a circle scarf. it's really warm.

but then, I had to recover the pillow which gave me an excuse to buy this fabric I'd been eyeing for like five months.(and I can't wait til we move and I can recover that couch, ugh.) but I gotta admit that I made the pillow the complete wrong size the first time around. I'm just glad I made it too big or I mighta cried for wasting half the fabric (since I plan to make a matching set).

also, for christmas, I made JG a dopp kit since somehow he didn't have anything to store toiletries in when he travels (and a ziplock bag doesn't count). it's actually not entirely finished because I'm gonna wax it to make it sturdier and more water-repellent but I haven't gotten around to it yet. (I made a smaller version of this tutorial.)

this one's really boring since I didn't take a before picture, but I got this amazing purple wool skirt that was three sizes too big last month. I'd never tailored anything before that involved messing with the waistband cause it just seemed like too much effort but I decided I should just go for it cause a $3 skirt in my favorite color is too good to pass up. turns out it wasn't as scary as I imagined and makes me love the skirt all the more.

oh, and lastly. while JG was gone over Christmas I decided there was a serious lack of pictures of us in our house (we only had one) so I printed a zillion and cut them out and taped them to the end of our shelf/room divider. I like to think Sugar looks at them when we're not home and she's feeling lonely.

  5. I love the dopp kit! Now I know what to make Blake for his birthday next month. Thumbs up on the skirt- I have a few projects that I have written off as too intimidating- but maybe I just need to jump in and try it?!?! Thanks for the inspiration.

  6. Mgn, Like the rest of your admirers, I LOVE the Dopp kit! What a great idea!! I also love the fabric that you picked out for the pillow-- ALSO, I am currently wearing at this very moment a new thrift store skirt that is almost identical to the one you re-did-- seriously, same shape, shame shade--it's weird. And I also love it. However, yours is WAY cooler as it is made of wool and also expertly taylored by an amazing seamstress. Way to GO!! I got a sewing machine for Christmas and I am very excited to begin on the pile of projects I have in line after I clear a few more to-dos out of the way... Thanks for the distraction from work with the excellent post.
