5 months

this kid has really stolen my heart. the second he hit the 3 month mark he started doing something new and cute practically every day. he's so strong which always makes me worry about him hurting himself. so far he just likes to scratch his head any chance he gets. everyone comments on how alert and curious he is. and he is. since day one has preferred to be held facing out or over the shoulder so he can study everything. he smiles the most when he's naked and laughs the most when it's time for bed but a furrowed brow is his standard. he likes putting things in his mouth and drooling. standing is his preferred position but he tolerates tummy time and sitting. sometimes he acts like he's gonna roll over but then thinks better of it. he has better things to do than eat or sleep, so I spend a lot of my time trying to get him to eat or sleep. waking up 4 times a night is his average, which is much better than that week it was closer to 9. he's mighty handsome and his eyes are turning brown. I don't think I could love him more.

here's a video of him talking to himself cause I just couldn't help myself.

I'd been toying with doing the 52 Project since Boone was born, but I never got around to it. So I figured I'd just start with the new year, and then I still didn't get around to it. I just love the idea of being able to see how this little guy of mine changes from week to week. I've already missed taking pictures of things I don't want to forget so I'm gonna go ahead and start on week 4 cause better late than never, am I right? chairps

meet Boone

boone boy
September 5 ∆ 7:04pm ∆ 7 lbs. 15 oz ∆ 20 inches

first off, holy crap. having a baby is crazy. so much pain and effort and letting go involved. insane. but for some non-graphic specifics about this little guy:

my water broke 26 hours before I actually went in to labor, so I spent 26 hours trying every remedy out there to induce labor naturally. (sidenote: if anyone ever tells you to take castor oil slap them right in the face. I don't think I would ever take that stuff again, even if my life depended on it.) anyway, something must've worked cause when my contractions started I had five in twenty minutes, which totally freaked me out. as it should have. for a second I was even convinced I'd give birth on our living room floor. instead, JG did some tricky driving during rush hour traffic and we got to the birth center in about half the time it normally takes. he even passed a cop, but I assume he saw me on my hands and knees in the back seat and assumed no one not in labor would do that. my midwives were the absolute best and had everything ready for me when we got there. I ended up only being in labor for about an hour and a half more before I started pushing. thirty four minutes after that Boone arrived all at once and was put straight on my chest where I got to hold him for over an hour before he was weighed and measured. dreamy. then JG, Boone, and I were left alone to just start being a family. JG holding that little guy is one of the best things I've ever seen. and despite the whole labor and delivery thing, it was absolutely one of the best nights of my life.

some baby projects

I was a lot more ambitious about the things I planned to make this baby of ours before I actually started making them. I don't know why I thought it was a good idea to procrastinate this stuff til the third trimester? his nursery is really starting to come along, though. he totally has a place to sleep and drawers for his stuff and things on the walls. and here's some of the things I did actually make, which makes me feel a little less of a slacker (a diaper bag is the only thing I feel like I really should've made that I've yet to start):
triangle blanket^^blanket
swaddle blankets^^swaddle blankets (that I keep meaning to stamp)

diapers

when we found out baby boy was on his way, I knew I'd need to save money on diapers by doing the whole cloth diaper thing. long story short, I ended up doing a zillion hours of research on patterns and fabrics and, most importantly, how not to be grossed out by using cloth diapers, and decided I could do it and that I'd make my own.

I wanted ones that are simple to use but I also need them to look cute on teeny bums. since I decided to make 3 different sizes instead of the one-size-fits-all kind I'll be making 60 diapers in total, which is insane. supposedly they'll last through more than one kid, though, so bonus. and I'm only making the first size before he's born, so 24 to start isn't so bad. I kinda die over how cute they're turning out.
cloth diapers
I actually planned on starting these sooner, but the snaps got stolen off my porch and I couldn't bring myself to re-order them for the longest time cause it bummed me out too much thinking of someone opening the package and likely throwing it in the nearest dumpster. cause, really, what's a normal person gonna do with 600 snaps?
